I created this blog as a way to share my experiences as I practice my crochet and crafting skills (not to mention to give me an excuse to feed my yarn addiction and make some pretty darn cute stuff, all in the name of research!) I’ll do my best to keep the page updated with my favorite patterns, book/pattern/product reviews, and whatever else I think might be of value to my fellow crafters.
Now a bit about me and my inspirations:
I have always had a passion for art and creating, but my crochet and subsequent yarn addiction began back in 2004 when I was living in Mexico with my husband and his family and saw firsthand the amazing things that can be created with just a simple ball of yarn and a hook.
When we moved back to the states in 2006, life kind of got in the way for awhile and crochet took a backseat to finishing my degree and raising our two kids. Then shortly after we moved into our first house I rediscovered my love of crochet when I stumbled upon amigurumi (the Japanese art of crocheting toys and dolls) and have been “hooked” ever since (sorry, couldn’t resist). Since then I have opened an online shop, The Yarn Owl Handmade Boutique (named after my first original crochet pattern, an owl) where I sell my crocheted creations and find tons of inspiration from other handmade artists.
Now we’ve taken on homeschooling our three kids and things are crazier than ever! But as any mom knows, we all need something to relieve the daily stress of parenting and life in general, and that’s what crochet does for me.The satisfaction of seeing an idea go from notes and sketches to a finished product or finding that perfect skein of yarn for a special project makes me extremely happy, and I’m very blessed to have the chance to do something I love while watching my babies grow!
I hope you enjoy following along on my handmade journey! If there is anything you’d like to see me cover please don’t hesitate to contact me! Thanks!
